The study examined lecturers’ job performance and internal efficiency in publicly owned universities in South-west, Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design was used for the study. A sample of 712 lecturers were selected from Faculties of Education and Science in the eight sampled universities in which a total population of 7,323 was obtained. A research instrument titled “Lecturers’ Job Performance Questionnaire” was used to gather relevant data. Descriptive statistics (frequency counts, percentages and mean) were used to answer the research questions for the study, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation statistics was used to test the hypotheses formulated in the study. The findings from the study revealed that lecturers’ job performance was moderate with a high internal efficiency. It was concluded therefore, that job performance of lecturers is a roadmap that enables universities to attain a high internal efficiency; hence, the study recommended among others that teaching should be used for appraisal of lecturers’ job performance and promotion while lecturers with outstanding performance in teaching should be given awards as a source of motivation.
